Fossil and Financial Fools Day goes global

Today saw not only mass protests in London ahead of the G20 summit, but local demonstrations in cities around the UK and across the globe. Under the banner of Fossil Fools Day, activists held protests at banks, energy companies and power stations across the UK, the USA and South Africa to highlight the twin economic and climate crises.

NRT Rat Race

Rats at TopshopTo mark Buy Nothing Day, activists from Norwich Rising Tide held a Rat Race in the Norwich city centre.

The busiest high street in Norwich was today full of rats. The rats were equipped with placards reading Work Harder, Earn More Money, Buy More Things, Keep Going, and leaflets telling people to join the consumption Rat Race. The reverse of the leaflet, revealed the spoof and informed people that today was buy nothing day and perhaps they should consider the environmental and social consequences of excessive consumption.

Targeteon - London Rising Tide visit the Football Association's Headquarters

On Friday 28th November London Rising Tide visited the F.A.Headquarters to protest about E-on's sponsorship of the FA Cup. A full team of Rising Tiders turned out to play football in T shirts bearing the names of the government's proposed new coal fired powerstations. Yellow and Red cards explaining the facts about dirty coal were handed out to staff leaving the headquarters and passing public.

We are living through both alarming and amazing times: financial systems are creaking, climate change is being felt around the world, and the peak in fossil fuels fast approaches. Cracks are widening daily throughout the fossil fuel empire, and change is coming whether we like it or not.

Q: What's Fossil Fools Day going to do?
A: Speed up the end of the fossil fuel empire, and the beginnings of a more just and sustainable world.

Howdy,
There is a meeting at LARC on Thursday 2th of October which will be discussing various proposals and ideas for targets over the next while. And then on the 9th of October we have somebody from Platform in to talk about their ongoing RBS campaign.

So, come along, and kick capitalism in the ass.
