CAR FREE DAY IN OXFORD
Billed as a 'pollution-free party on pedals', Oxford Rising Tide Group will celebrate World Car Free Day with a Critical Mass bicycle protest on Thursday 20 September. People are asked to gather on bikes at 5pm at The Plain roundabout (where Cowley Rd., Iffley Rd and St. Clements meet, just over Magdalen Bridge) and continue from there through the town centre, moving very slowly to claim cyclists' right to the road, and leafleting cars about climate change and the need to get out of our cars.

The protest will be peaceful and totally legal (cyclists will keep moving and so are not breaking any law!). Bring your bike and a whistle, banners and whatever props you can carry on a bike.

CAR FREE DAY IN MANCHESTER
Thursday September 20th is World Car-free day and to celebrate this the Manchester Rising Tide group is co-ordinating a
* Critical Mass Bike Ride and a
* Climate Change event at the Friends Meeting House, Mount Street, Manchester city centre.

Critical Mass
To demonstrate a car-free environment, cyclists from all over Manchester will be taking to the streets. In a highly visual, colourful and fun manner they'll be spreading the message that car use is a major contributor to climate change and also makes our cities dirtier and more dangerous places. We'll be there to remind motorists that there is an alternative. Meet at Whitworth Park, next to the Whitworth Gallery, Oxford Road at 5pm. Bring a bike if you have one but pedestrians are welcome.

Rising Tide event
Friends Meeting House Mount Street, Manchester city centre, 7pm for 7.30pm start. Climate Change is surely one of the biggest threats this world currently faces. Scientists say we need to cut our carbon emissions by 60-90% to stabilise our environment yet United Nationsÿ talks in Bonn this summer agreed on cuts of just 5% with numerous opt out clauses. Rising Tide is a coalition of groups and individuals committed to a community-based approach to fighting climate change. This event will allow people interested in taking action on climate change to become aware of the facts, to meet other activists from Manchester and to think about ideas for action.
