RISING TIDE PARTNERS WITH ALTERNATIVE TO CORPORATE-FRIENDLY ‘LIVE EARTH’
4.7.07
Rising Tide UK (1) has joined the growing list of partners to Alive Earth (2), a grassroots musical alternative to the Live Earth project.
Sam Chase from Rising Tide said: ‘The fatal flaw at the heart of Live Earth is the same as that at the heart of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’: it acknowledges the gravity of the crisis, but then goes into overdrive to convince us that electric cars, the convenient lie that is carbon offsetting and privatised technology can get us through it. Once again, an amazing opportunity to stimulate real social and climatic change has been squandered.’

Reports have so far come in of actions in London (Esso and lastminute.com targeted), Bristol (Critical Mass), Norwich (petrol station blockade) and Nottingham (activists picket A453 exhibition) in the UK, Evershagen (Shell garage) in Germany, Lisbon and Porto (battle for climate justice and carbon trading street theatre) in Portugal, Sao Paulo (Critical Mass) in Brazil, Whanganui-a-Tara (Tour of EEEVil) in New Zealand and Asheville (Bank of America targeted), San Francisco (Critical Mass), Florida (natural gas plant targeted) and Portland (anti-dam/no boarders) in the US.
Posing as members of the fictional Coalition for Roads And Progress (C.R.A.P), and brandishing placards bearing slogans such as ‘Re-tarmac the streets!', ‘Oil is Good for the Planet’, ‘The NDR – an industrial paradise’ and ‘Walking is a Waste of Time!’, we held a series of mock press conferences outside the Forum in Norwich city centre.
